Introduction to Science

Science is one of the mainstreams of education in India. Even after the flourishing of several engineering courses across the country, the demand for science courses has not subdued. A degree in science offers greater career prospects in the industry. It also enables the candidate to pursue advanced courses in related fields. There are different branches of Science, of which three branches have gained significant popularity because of their significant contribution for the mankind. They are: earth science, physical science and life science. Each of these categories offers a wide array of specializations, so students can pursue the career of their choice by joining the respective graduate/postgraduate program.

Undergraduate Courses: B.Sc.
Duration: Three Years

• B.Sc. in Geography
• B.Sc. in Geology

• B.Sc. in Nautical Science

Physical Science courses can be categorized into the following:

• B.Sc. in Chemistry

The courses offered under Live Sciences are the following:
• B.Sc. in Botany
• B.Sc. in Biochemistry

Eligibility: In general, candidates who have passed 10+2 with science as one of the core subjects are eligible for all B.Sc. courses. However, some of the courses also require that the students procure a minimum percent of marks in the admission tests conducted by the respective institutes/examination body.

Post Graduate Courses: M.Sc.
Duration: Two Years
Students can pursue post graduation in the same field which they got graduated. They may pursue the course in the same university or different one depending on the eligibility criteria mandated by the respective institutes. Admission to certain courses is restricted by entrance tests.

Certificate Courses/Diploma in Science:
Certificate courses/Diplomas are offered for the following branches of Science. Duration and eligibility criteria may vary depending upon the nature of the course and the nature of the institute.

Scope of career in Science

Science graduates/post graduates may be absorbed in reputed scientific research centers that are often associated with national/international research institutes, defense organizations, health organizations, community development cells, and many more. A science graduate can also opt to become a teacher/lecturer in the respective subjects. This may require additional qualification, depending on the level of teaching one intends to take up.
