Xavier Institute of Engineering was established in the year 2005 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Fathers). It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra and affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

The establishment of the Engineering College is largely due to the vision of the late Fr. William Borges, S.J. He was the Principal of St. Xavier’s Technical Institute at Mahim, forty years ago. He had the vision to develop this place as a Centre of Excellence for Engineering Education. Unfortunately during his lifetime and due to paucity of funds, he could not make his dream come true.

The present Jesuit Provincial and Chairman of the Bombay Xaverian Corporation, the parent body of various Jesuit Trusts /  Societies in Mumbai is Fr. Francis de Melo, S.J. He is a visionary who also headed  St. Xavier’s Technical Institute as Principal for almost twenty years and was instrumental in the realization of late Fr. Borges’ dream. Thus the Xavier Institute of Engineering came into existence in 2005.

Library:
The Library is the heart of any academic institution. A Library is a trinity of documents, users and staff and is a centre for teaching and learning. The XIE Library is spacious, airy and well ventilated. It is situated on the first floor and includes the Reference section and the Reading Room.

Laboratory:
The College has a well-equipped B.E.E. Laboratory to help students to learn the design, analysis and simulation of components and devices Experiments in electrical and electronics fundamentals are carried out here. More laboratories slated to come up are a Communications Laboratory, Digital Electronics Laboratory and Integrated Circuits Laboratory.

Workshop:
The Institute has a huge workshop for students on the ground floor. It is well ventilated and bright and has all the required equipment for students to get hands-on experience. The workshop has the following sections:  
* Carpentry Shop
* Welding Shop
*  Fitting Shop
* Sheet Metal Shop
* Electrical Board Wiring Section
* Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Section

Some of the tools available are Wood working Lathe machine, Bench grinder and Buffer drill machine.

Gymkhana:
The College has a well-equipped gymkhana on the 3rd floor. It has adequate facilities for various indoor and outdoor sports like Cricket, Football, Volley Ball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess.

Canteen:
The College has a spacious, clean, well-lit and airy canteen serving tasty and hygienic snacks. Quality meals are provided at reasonable rates. The Canteen is also the hub of student activity and many a time students are seen discussing their projects over a  cup of tea and snacks.
