Any discussion of the India's legal system & legal culture today is incomplete, in fact, meaningless without a mention of the Government Law College. If one look back over the years, One becomes aware of the immeasurable role this pioneering law institution has played in the judicial, political, social life and historical background of India.
The legal luminaries who have walked thriugh its portals touch our lives even today. Great man like Lokmanya balgangadhar Tilak (freedom fighter), Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (the architect of the indian Constitution); Chief Jutice M. C. Chagla (the first Indian Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court), Sir Motilal Setalvad (the first Attorney General of Independent India), N. A. Started in academic year 1998-99, the Government Law College 'On Campus Recruitment Programme' is one of the first and only recruitment programme organized amongst Law Colleges in Bombay.
What started with a handful of students today boasts of total strength of 57 dedicated members.
Our objective at the Placements Committee is to provide good employment opportunities to our students. And for this end we have endeavored to get the best Law Firms, Corporates and Counsels to recruit our students.
Every year our College has a Placement Week during which the prospective employers interview students.
Library:
The Government Law College library provides students with extensive facilities to maximize their knowledge in the field of law. It is probably the most frequented section of the college, and most certainly a haven for dedicated law students.
The government colleges hostel was established in 1964 when the new building at 46-47, 'C' Road Churchgate was constructed. Earlier Sydenham collage students Used to be housed at Manek House, Near Kemp's Corner, the students of the Institute Of Science and those of Government Law College used to stay at the Telang Memorial Hostel, 'C' Road, Churchgate.In order to accommodate students from Government Colleges at one place near Churchgate, perhaps the government thought of constructing the present structure.

A gymnasium, which has all the physical exercise equipment, is on the ground floor. Timing - 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.
The Nani Palkhivala Memorial National Tax Moot Court Competition
India's first and only moot court competition devoted exclusively to the subject of Tax Law. The competition is hosted by the MCA in association with the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) Bar Association and the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP). This competition gives the students a unique opportunity to argue in the ITAT Courtrooms before the Hon'ble members of the ITAT. The Final Rounds of the competition are adjudged by three sitting Judges of the Bombay High Court. The competition will be held from 16th - 18th October, 2008.
