The objects of this Central University as envisaged in the statutes are that it shall strive to offer employment oriented and interdisciplinary courses to meet the regional to national aspirations and the development of the state of Assam and also offer courses and promote research in areas which are of special and direct relevance to the region and in the emerging areas in Science and Technology.

The library holds 47755 volumes of print documents and subscribed 1011 titles of current journals (print 233, online 778) and one databases through INDEST-AICTE Consortium and other publishers. The UGC-Infonet Consortia of INFLIBNET Center is providing access facility to 6624 e-journals and ten databases. The library also holds 81 VCDs and more then 1200 CDs scattering to different thought contents. Library users can access book database, theses database, journal database, e-journals and other e-resources from any terminal within the University campus.

Health Centre:

Health Centre:

Health Centre of Tezpur University has been functioning since 1995. It provides health care services to students, faculty and staff of Tezpur University. The Health Centre at present operates under the supervision of run by Tezpur University�s own experienced Medical Officer, Dr D K Goswami, and recent recruit, Dr (Mrs.) Jonali Sarma Goswami, who joined in January 2008. The medical staff consists of a pharmacist, a laboratory technician and a nurse. The Health Centre offers OPD services but four indoor beds are also available for initial care in emergency cases. A Medical Officer is available round the clock for emergency cases. The facilities available in the Health Centre have been further increased. While the Health Centre has is own ECG machine and autoanalyser, an Ultrasound scanner was recently purchased. Specialists in disciplines like Radiology, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology have been engaged to make weekly visits for the benefit of the University community. From 28 March 2008 onwards  the Health Centre conducted its Annual Health Checkup programme for the employees of the University.

About Computer Centre:

The Tezpur University started using computers from its very inception in 1994 in its academic activities as well as in the administration. A Computer Centre was established in 1997 to facilitate a common computational resource centre for the academic programmes as well as for maintenance of the other computing resources in the university. Over the years the University has grown substantially in terms of departments and academic programmes as well as in infrastructure. The computer centre has implemented a campus LAN with optical fiber backbone connecting the academic as well as administrative departments spread over the the University campus of 241 acres. Internet connectivity is provided throughout the campus with 10Mbps OFC Link (UGC-INFONET), a 2Mbps Leased Line Link and a VSAT link of 512Kbps. Wireless LAN has also been set-up to extend the LAN connectivity to the Hostels and the residential areas. The computer centre maintains one Central Computer Centre (CC) with about 60 latest configured PCs and one Central Server Room. It also maintains the web server, mail server, proxy server, file server, anti-virus server, administrative database server, library server of the University. Besides these servers, one SGI-Altix 350 High Performance Compute Server system is dedicated for research community for high-end computational work. Centre is also well-equipped with Scanners, Laser Printers, DMP printers and Multimedia projector. In June 2008,  another unit of Computer Centre is set up at Energy Building with about 31 latest configured PCs. In addition, it also maintains the computing resources used by the faculty and the administration. University EPABX is also administered and monitored by the Centre. The Computer Centre has also set up a Helpdesk Cell to give technical supports to more than 800 PC users. The technical team also extends its help to students and other users for immediate troubleshooting of network connectivity issues of their Personal PCs and peripherals. For smooth functioning of the Computer Center, university maintains a proper Computing Resources Policy.

The Facilitating Interface:

One of the unique features of the University is its commitment not only to produce quality manpower, but also to guide and shape the career of the students. In order to meet this objective, the University has a Training & Placement Cell which acts as the interface between the recruiting organizations and the University students. It facilitates recruitment events on-campus as well as off-campus as required. It also organizes various pre-placement training programmes to enhance the employability of the targeted students. Currently, the Cell is headed by the Deputy Director (Training & Placement).

Rigorous Admission Tests:

The students of the University are selected through a two-stage filtration system, (a) nation-wide written test, and (b) group discussion and personal interview. The main objective of these tests is to select the right kind of caliber for the right programme. For its MBA programme, the University takes the December Management Aptitude Test (MAT) conducted by the All India Management Association (AIMA) and the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The final selection is made through a Group Discussion and Personal Interview conducted by the University. The students for the MSc programme in Molecular Biology and Bio-technology are selected through the national test conducted by the Jawaharlal Nehru University and sponsored by the Government of India.

Close-knit Monitoring:

While the residential nature of the University gives ample opportunity to the teachers and students to spend more time in the pursuit of teaching-learning, the non-affiliating quality facilitates more concentration on focused training and research. The teacher�student ratio in this University is one of the lowest in the country and therefore it provides for more attention to the student and a perfect atmosphere for one-to-one discussion.   

Well Versed in Computing:

Computers are a sine qua non for the students of Tezpur University as they receive training, be it their own curricula or otherwise, under an atmosphere where heavy practice of computing prevails. Their exposure to the latest software, hardware and the internet enables them to be comfortable with any modern-day job in the international market. Apart from the high-end Central Computer Centre, all the departments have their own computer labs.
