A Christian Minority Higher Educational Institution, St. Xavier's was founded in 1860 by a Catholic Minority Religious body, the Society of Jesus, and was affiliated to Calcutta University in 1862. While preference is shown to the educational and cultural needs of the Minority community, admission is open to all irrespective of caste, creed and nationality!
SXC as an Autonomous college, please note, is not a DEEMED TO BE UNIVERSITY and therefore not empowered to offer degrees. It is permitted to formulate its own syllabus, and establish its own evaluation system, i.e. conduct exams and publish the results.
Library:
Main College Library : Books from the Main Library are lent to students only under the control of the Senior Professor in each Department.
Laboratory:
St. Xavier's College has highly equipped Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Computer Science and Biology (Botany / Zoology) Labs.
Cyber room:
SXC Cyber Room is now equipped with high speed (4MBPS Leased Line) Internet Connectivity.

... >>Hostel accommodations are available for the two Boys Hostels. One of them is in Park Street with a total capacity of 180 students. The second one is just 10 minutes away from the College, at 219/1 J. C. Bose Road. It can accommodate around 70 students.
