St. Joseph Educational Trust was founded in 1992 by a group of like minded Philanthrophists with a mission to develop Educational Institutions to provide quality education from Primary level to University level.
In pursuit of the above vision, St. Peter's Engineering College was established in 1993 with the objectives.
To provide for instruction and training in Engineering, Technology, Management, Computer Science etc.
To provide for research, advancement and dissemination of knowledge.
To undertake extra mural studies : Extension programmes and outfiled research activities leading to the development of society.
The Trust is now Chaired by Dr.Mrs.T.Bhanumathi, leading gynaecologist. With her guiding light, the institution is growing day by day.
SPEC has very good automated central library. It has a collection of 45,351 volumes in 16,407 titles. Knowing the importance of journals, it subscribes for 73 international and 103 national journals. It also subscribes for 88 magazines. Every year 2000 books are added to the stock.
SPEC has taken up the Institutional membership in the professional societies and receives their magazines. The institutional library memberships of SPEC facilitate students and faculty to borrow books and journals from libraries of IIT (Chennai), Anna University and DELNET, New Delhi. To inculcate the habit of reading, one library hour is allocated to each class every week.
Separate hostels are available for boys and girls with 164 and 156 rooms respectively with the total building area of 17,000 sq.m. Rooms are available for single, double, triple and quadruple accommodation with attached bathrooms.
Kitchens are well equipped with modern steam cooking systems. Clean and hygienic dining halls are maintained throughout. Hostels are provided with reading rooms, TV rooms and recreation halls. A doctor visits the college/hostels on all days to render medical attention for the needy students.
