The PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh was orginally established as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore (now in Pakistan) on November 9, 1921. The name of the college was later changed to Maclagan Engineering College and its started functioning under the name on March 19, 1924. In the year 1931, the college got affiliated to Punjab University, Lahore. After partition in 1947, the college was shifted to Roorkee (India) and was renamed as East Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950 the word East was dropped and it came to know by its present name - Punjab Engineering College. ... >>The Placement office handles all aspects of campus placements at PEC Chandigarh. The office is well-equipped with excellent infrastructure to support every stage of placement process. The arrangements for pre-placement talks, written tests, interviews and discussions etc. are all handled by the placement committee of college students. The following facilities are made available:
1. An auditorium to conduct the pre-placement talks.
2. Well-furnished and air-conditioned room for interviews.
3. Fully computerized office.
4. Well-trained and organized placement committee (student representatives).
The placement policy and other related activities are handled by the placement officer in consultation with the placement committee.

Computer Centre is central place for campus-wide networking and Internet connectivity. Backbone connectivity initiates from this Centre and caters to more than 1000 nodes across the campus. Centre is equipped with Web Server, Academia Server, E- Mail Server, Security Wall, Bandwidth Management and Data Servers. Fiber optic from local ISP terminates for Internet connectivity 8 Mbps bandwidth and further emanates to the all departments/sections/hostels. The existing institute network has Fiber backbone whereby all departments/sections/hostels are connected with the computer centre.

There are four hostels for boys namely Shivalik (1st Year students), Himalaya (2nd Year and 3rd Year students), Kurukshetra (Final Year) students, and Aravali (M.E. students) and two hostels for girls named Kalpana Chawla hostel (B.E. girls) and Vindhya (M.E. girls). Each hostel is self contained with amenities such as reading room, indoor games room, lounge and dining hall and a mess.
