Established in 1956 in New Delhi by the late Sir Shri Ram in memory of his wife, the college had its modest beginnings in a school building in Daryaganj, Central Delhi, with 243 students, 9 faculty, 4 support staff and 3 distinct courses of study. The aim of the institution was to provide access to higher education of quality to women. LSR is a testimony to the farsighted vision of its founder and his indefatigable enthusiasm to actualize his dream.

Today, the college is located in a beautiful 15 acre campus in South Delhi, has approximately 2000 students, over 150 faculty, administrative and support staff and 16 courses of study. Guided by an enlightened and supportive Board of Governors, drawn from the fields of industry, law, journalism, academics and the bureaucracy, under the inspiring Chairmanship of industrialist and philanthropist, Dr. Bharat Ram, the College has become a byword for academic and extra curricular achievement.

The Placement Cell serves as an interface between the students and the Corporates. Apart from bringing a varied list of Recruiters to the campus , the Placement Cell also organizes talks, study abroad seminars, internship opportunities and workshops for the collective student body. As an added feature skill building workshops such as workshops for Personal Interviews and Group Discussions and Personality Development have been introduced to help make the Placement Cell more like a ‘Career Services’ Unit rather than just for Final Placements

The laboratories are used by the students who  take up Mathematics, Statistics, Commerce and B.A. Programme courses.

LSR, assisted by dedicated gardeners, has won the prestigious “University Green Cup” for 9 years running and the gardens are thus a source of great pride. On joining LSR, every student is encouraged to plant and nurture a tree. The environment club,  Prakriti, offers a unique opportunity for aesthetic satisfaction to those interested in gardening and conservation. While the unwritten law is to stay off the front lawns, the wide stretches of the back lawns, the courtyard and the rock gardens, are always accessible. They are especially inviting in the winter, when the sun glistens on the moist grass.


Students participate in a wide range of sports activities like Chess, Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Lawn Tennis, Basket Ball, Shooting, Athletics, Badminton, Martial Arts, Golf, Judo, Volley Ball and the Equestrian field. Members of the NSO win a number of prestigious inter college trophies and medals and often represent the University of Delhi at National Meets.

Our students have represented the nation at international events and won laurels. LSR is the only College in the University to host an Annual Sports Meet as well as an Annual Cross Country Run that aids in creating awareness about a social theme.

Students wishing to avail of the on-campus housing should obtain a separate application form from the residence office immediately after they have been admitted to the college. The completed form, along with a copy of the school marks-sheet and a certificate of physical fitness, must be submitted to the Residence office by the date specified on the College Notice Board, for finalising the Residence Hall interview list.

We have an extremely limited number of seats for first year students this year. As we receive over 2000 applications for accommodation, it is naturally not possible to accommodate all the applicants. Candidates are requested not to seek admission to the college expecting residence facilities to be extended to them automatically. Try

Procedure To Be Followed For Obtaining Accommodation In The Residence Hall

(ADMISSIONS 2008 - 2009)

On the basis of the lists of various courses forwarded by the respective teachers, the list of eligible candidates will be put up on the Residence Hall Notice Board on TUESDAY 1st July, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.

1. Hostel Admissions will take place on 1st July, 2008 & 2nd July, 2008 and if necessary on 3rd July, 2008.

2. All candidates whose names are on the Hostel admissions list will have to collect a Hostel admission form from the Hostel office on payment of a nominal fee. They are required to fill in the Hostel application form and submit the same in the Hostel Admin. office by 1.00 p.m. on 1st July, 2008 together with the following certificates:

(a) Conduct certificate (A photocopy will do)

(b) Photocopies of Proof of Residence. (Latest telephone bill / electricity bill, paid in the name of the parent/s -- if these are not available then a transfer order from the employer to the present post or a lease agreement with the landlord at the present place of residence, will be accepted. Note: Ration card etc will not be entertained.)

(c) A health/fitness/medical certificate.

The final list of the candidates selected for the Residence Hall would be put up after completion of all the interviews on the Residence Hall Notice Board. As per instructions specified on this list candidates will be required to make payment of residence hall dues and complete all other formalities, failing which, the candidate concerned may have to forgo her admission to the Residence Hall.
