The School of Arts and Aesthetics is one of the few places in India that offers post-graduate degree courses in the theoretical and critical study of the cinematic, visual and performing arts. Moreover, it is the only place in India where these disciplines are offered in one integrated programme that allows students to understand the individual arts in a broader context of history, sociology, politics, semiotics, gender and cultural studies apart from being able to integrate the study of one art form with the other arts. The pedagogic approach of the SAA recognises that it no longer suffices to study a work of art as an 'object' in isolation, apart from the social forces that shape and give it meaning. The teaching here adopts a multidisciplinary approach drawing on insights from the fields of anthropology, history, media and cultural studies. Students are introduced to a range of research methods that combine archival, ethnographic, theoretical and cultural approaches.
The School focuses on taught degree programmes. The faculty encourages students - and other interested persons - to take advantage of Delhi's cultural riches by visiting exhibitions, theatre, film and music festivals. The School organises field trips to monuments and museums and to observe traditional theatre, music and dance practices across India. The School also has a busy schedule of lectures and seminars by visiting scholars and artists from across the world and occasionally hosts performances as well.
Visual Studies faculty offer courses on ancient Indian Art and Architecture, Aesthetic theories, Mughal and Rajput painting, Modern and Contemporary Art, and Popular Culture. These are taught together with courses that familiarise the students with the materials and methods of producing the visual arts and the history of the institutions that house, showcase and promote them.
At present, visiting faculty give further instruction on the architecture of the Sultanates, and in the coming year the School plans to develop further its courses on the Indian painting.

Guest House:
The University has three Guest Houses, Aravali Guest House and Aravali International Guest House  situated on the campus adjacent to the academic complex. Library:
The Departmental Library of SAA is a small but rapidly growing resource. It is within the SAA premises, currently housed on the 1st floor of the School building. The list of books available in this library is posted as an Excel document on the two computers available for student use, as well as on the computers in the School's office. Students may browse and search through these files to locate the books they need. The library in-charge, will make books available in the 1st floor reading room (i.e., the Gallery and Room 103) from 2pm to 5 pm each working day. SAA will also take orders for photocopying at that time; these orders will be filled on the next working day. Most books are available for use in the reading room only; but a small number of designated textbooks are available for overnight issue.

Medical Facilities:
The University Health Centre started working as a medical care unit in 1973 for students. Soon, the facility for consultation and lab investigation was extended to people who are residing in the campus. The Health Centre right from its inception has been to provide comprehensive health care i.e. preventive, curative and promotive services under one roof to students only. However, for curative purpose of all University employees ther is also CGHS dispensary.

The University hostel system includes 10 Hostels for Boys and Girls and one complex accommodating married students and one complex is coming up shortly for post Doctoral Fellows. These are spacious, well furnished hostels. Apart from hygienic foods, hostels provides recreational facilities includes TVs, indoor games, health Club, and PCOs etc. Each hostel has its live-in wardens, a member of faculty who administers the hostels.
In view of the limited Hostel Accommodation, the candidates should note that the grant of admission to a programme of study in the University would not ensure allotment of Hostel Accommodation and that the Accommodation will be offered to the eligible applicants subject to availability.
