The Indian Institute of Forest Management was approved by the Government of India in 1981 and IIFM was registered as a society in January 1982.

Institute awards, scholarships, fellowships, prizes and medals in accordance with the rules and bye-laws.

Create patronships, affiliations & other classes of professional or honorary membership or office, as the society may consider necessary.

IIFM has a 100% placement record from its inception and the same trend continued for the 21st year.
The entire batch of 57 students was placed during placement week at the Institute.  IIFM received an overwhelming response from 84 organizations, out of which 25 were subsequently invited to the campus giving due consideration to the job profile and the compensation package offered.  These organizations made 137 offers.

IIFM has a 100% placement record from its inception and the same trend continued for the 21st year.

Computer Center:
IIFM is equipped with excellent computing resources. The Computer Centre has hardware and software resources that are capable of providing support for diverse computing requirements. It has a number of desktops in Local Area Network (LAN) and has state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS) and Image Processing facilities. Computing support is provided to students twenty four hours a day.

A. Campus wide local area network  with wireless LAN support on a fiber optic backbone having computers on multiple domain supporting Word Processing, Spreadsheet and RDBMS Packages, Statistical Software, CASE Tools, Programming languages, Project Management and Financial Accounting Software.

B.  Latest Desktops with TFT, AO sized scanner, AO sized digitizer, AO sized plotters, Laser and High Speed Printers, ARC/INFO GIS Software, ERDAS Imagine Digital Image Processing Software, SPSS, Tally.

C.  24 Hours Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi classrooms including E-mail through a dedicated leased line of 2 MBPS.

Students mess:
The mess facility is managed by the students and they are responsible for deciding the menu and making the budget. The Mess is equipped with automated and semi-automated cooking equipment and heating systems. It has the capability of serving about 300 people at a time. The food is wholesome and nutritious. The breakfast is usually hurried whereas the lunch is marked with a sense of keen appetite and the dinner culminates into leisurely eating and long drawn discussions. Eating together at the mess conjures a magnificent sight: one big family dining together.

Sports Facilities:
A wide range of sporting facilities are available on campus. The Institute has good facilities for indoor and outdoor sports like Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Carrom, Football, Cricket and Volleyball. Intra-Institute sports tournaments are organized regularly and the Institute participates every year in the All India Forest Sports and Games Meet organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Each activity inculcates a sense of discipline and sportsmanship. While a defeat calls for an improvement, a victory teaches us not to merely rest on our laurels but to strive for perfection. Each tournament is marked with a high level of energy, display of god like sporting skills and keen participation. Here at IIFM, every goal scored is cheered, every run scored is applauded and every point won calls for a great celebration.

Any kind of management education will be incomplete without an exposure to real life situations, therefore, Summer Internship is an essential part of the PGDFM Programme. Students are attached to various corporate houses, government agencies and National and International development agencies to work on independent projects. A large number of organisations have been participating in Summer Internship.
