A college or any educational institute flourishes and rises above the mundane and the ordinary only when it has a vision and endeavours to translate this vision. However, a vision cannot get translated without realising the real needs of its participants. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College epitomises the collective aspiration of the community that participates in this vision. And yes! Lest we forget to mention that this vision is the optimum realisation of an individuals potential and nurturing of progressive and liberal ideals for building a better world.How does a college survive outside the University campus? May be by beautifying its grounds and investing in equipment or by simply investing in its manpower i.e. the students and the teachers.How does a college take that quantum leap so that it stands apart from other such institutions? May be by turning every hurdle into a challenge and what is the challenge that this college faces year after year? We accept students with lower cut-offs during the admissions. Yet, by the end of three years of graduation; we convert them into higher percentages and some into University positions. There are no short cuts in this process; a relentless labour alone ensures such rich dividends.How does a young college compete with the established and premier colleges of Delhi University? May be by carving out its own little niche and charting out its own terrain, similar and yet different.Nestled in the crowded bylanes of Karampura this college is already aspirational. A college excels even outside the hallowed portals of the main University campus by creating its own campus and acquiring its own personality. And what are the shades and hues of this personality that we have so painstakingly acquired over these last fourteen years? Brilliant performances by students in their academic pursuits, a steady increase in pass percentages and scintillating achievements in the arena of extra-curricular activity. The representation of our students in diverse events at other prestigious institutions of Delhi University and accolades earned by them for showcasing their academic and other talents has provided us with a definite launching pad.College education is an opportunity to explore ones interests and test new ideas. It is also the best way to reach ones full potentials as a human being. This is attempted through an interaction between students of different discipline by societies which keep them constantly engaged in creative and humanitarion activities. The college has various co-curricular and extra-curricular societies catering to the varied interests, tastes and talents of the student community.We, at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College , are conscious of academic results as they reflect the joint endeavors of the teaching faculty and the students. Consequently, attendance in classes is of prime importance. We are very strict about attendance rules and do not hesitate to detain students if they fail to meet the minimum attendance requirements. House examination are held in the month of January to provide an opportunity to the students to have a full-fledged examination rehersal and also to enable the faculty and students to assess knowledge of the status of their preparedness for the University examination and to augment the same in the light of inadequacies and deficiencies. We also encourage the students with awards and prizes if they do well in these exams. From the last academic session, the house examination has become an integral part of the internal assessment of the University examination scheme.We believe in democratic functioning and involve the students in arriving at decisions, which directly concern them. We also give them opportunities to express their opinions and views so that they could analyse and adopt what is best for them. We try and inculcate among our students a sense of discipline and responsibility so that they are capable of resisting temptations, and instigation of outside elements.Many of our old students, who have become successful Lawyers, Computer professionals, Management executives and Chartered Accountants have recently formed an Alumni Association in this college. These students have only helped us in reiterating our faith in the values that we impart in this college and they being honesty, integrity and self-reliance. These students are the torchbearers of a tradition that we have so carefully nurtured in this college.We are keenly aware that education is the only tool available to mankind to wipe out destitution, ignorance and intolerance. How effectively we impart this tool is our sole objective.We extend a warm welcome to all the students of the year 2010-2011.

Placement Services

The objective of placement cell is to groom the students for better placement in different sectors of economy. This year several IT companies like Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services(TCS), WIPRO, Satyam Computers, Tech Mahindra, Igate visited the campus for recruiting students in their esteemed organization and in total 47 students of B.Sc(H) Computer Science, B.Sc(H) Electronics and B.Sc(H) Physics have been selected. Some of the students have multiple placement offers from these companies. Apex Laboratories, a leading pharmaceutical company selected four students from B.Sc Physical Sciences and B.Sc Life Sciences. IBM-Daksh, a leading BPO, has also selected 12 students. Our College Library is a hub of intellectual activity and it provides an important platform for academic exchange between students and faculty members. The users are properly guided and ssisted in searching and locating the desired reading material.The library has a total collection of 31000 Volumes of Books and 450 Bound Volumes of Journals. Besides this the library has around 550 CD’s and Floppies on different subjects. The library subscribes to 60 Periodicals (Magazine/Journals) and 15 News papers. It displays monthly list of current arrivals. All the operations in the library are done through computers. The library has up-to-date computerized bibliographic database of its holdings’ and members’ database. The entires collection of the library can be browsed through the OPAC terminal. The total collection of the library is bar-coded. Members are given bar-coded library card for barcode based automated operation. Closed circuit cameras have been fixed to minimize pilferage. The library is a part of UGC-INFONET, a electronic resource sharing network through which more than 4000 electronic journals on different disciplines and 10,000 electronic texts on English literature classics can be accessed. The network also enables free internet access to the library users. The College Library in collaboration with International Punjabi Society (A Charitable Trust) provides Book Bank facility to economically backward and meritorious students. The college also holds Institutional membership of The British Council Library.All the students and staff of the college are the members of the library. Students need to furnish their fee receipt and the College Identity Card to become member of the library. The library offers yearly membership which is renewed subject to annual clearance. The library card is non-transferable. The library notifies its working and functioning from time to time. A copy of library rules and regulation is also displayed on the notice board for the benefit of students

Rankings & Awards

(i) From the University

The Delhi University holds a competitive examination in the month of October each year for the award of All-India Entrance Scholarships of Rs. 250.00 per month tenable for three years. The students of an Honours Course with at least 55% marks in the aggregate may apply

alongwith the examination fees of Rs. 50.00 latest by 25th August in the prescribed forms obtainable from the Examination Branch-VII (i) of the University of Delhi.

(ii) From State Governments to SC/ST/OBC/Minorities Students :

a. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Tribes/OBC/Minorities are awarded scholarships by the States to which they belong.

(iv) Shri Ghasi Ram Mittal Memorial Scholarship :

An Endowment fund in the name of Shri Ghasi Ram Mittal, has been sponsored by his son Sh. Ram Kumar Gupta. Out of the interest derived, five

Scholarships of the value of Rs. 1000/- per year shall be awarded to final year students of Science, Commerce, Humanities and Vocational Streams based on their performance in the second year university examinations.

(v) Pandit Vidyadhar Tripathi Memorial Award :

The College operates this fund with the objective of rendering financial assistance to needy and deserving students of the College. Assistance is usually given in the form of text books etc. Students in need of financial aid can apply when invited through circulars on the notice board.
