The origin of Banasthali is unique in more ways than one. Banasthali University owes its existence neither to the zeal of an educationist, nor to that of a social reformer. It is also not the creation of a Philanthropist's purse. It has arisen like the fabled phoenix from the ashes of a blossoming flower Shanta Bai that had which withered before its bloom. It was on October 6, 1935 that Smt. They had high expectations that she would work for women's cause when on  growing up. 

From its establishment in 1935, Banasthali has aimed at providing the girls with an education, which would enable them to secure a place of honour and equality in the society. 

The vision and mission of Banasthali is to provide the girls not simply with general education but to enable them to compete on equal terms in a society. 

Banasthali's work in the field of women's education has been of a special type. It can neither be classified as routine type of work nor a social type of work but a unique blending of the two.  

Banasthali is deeply conscious of the crisis of values that marks the modern society. In its view education is one of the potent instrument for trying to meet this crisis. Hence Banasthali's entire educational effort and program is focused on the need of creating a proper sense of values among the students. In this context it emphasizes a harmonious balance of the spiritual and scientific values of the East and the West. Simple and natural living and an attempt to strike a balance between individual freedom and social responsibility designed to achieve the above objectives. 

The Faculty has an excellent placement record with the majority of our students trainees being placed in the leading educational institutions and prestigious schools of the country. Campus interview too caters to the need and ability of the students by placing them to important national organizations. The Faculty of Education has established its credibility in the last five years in having M.Ed. qualified students being placed at the level of colleges and organizations.

The library collection grew to 5000 and 12,000 books in 1945 and 1955 respectively.

In order to fulfill the objectives of the University, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents useful for the faculty and the research community. This rich and valuable collection built over six decades has some of the rare reference materials and several important journals. The library currently receives over 600 periodical titles of which 550 are subscribed while the remaining titles are received as gratis. About 9000 titles are accessible online under UGC-INFONET Consortia.

The library offers Reference Services, Referral Service, Users’ orientation Service, Circulation Service, Current awareness service through weekly display of recent additions and e-mail distribution of these lists to users through mailing list, Bibliographic Service etc.

The library has been using the LIBSYS, an Integrated Library Management software package with all the modules for the library housekeeping operations. The library online Catalogue (OPAC) has more than 1.60 lakhs records of books (Bibliographic Information) and 13,500 back volumes of periodicals.
