Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established in Lucknow in 1996 as Central University (By an Act of Parliament 1994) with the objects of promoting advance knowledge by instructional and research facilities in science, key and frontier areas of technology and other allied disciplines. This University is the Post-Graduate and research University & main objective of this University is to promote professional studies, Inter-disciplinary studies, research and development activities.

Central Library:
The professional foundation for the library services of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow was laid in January 1998. The library inherited approximately a thousand reference books acquired by earlier arrangements and a thousand books in Hindi donated by the UP Bhasha Sansthan programs. It was then housed in two rooms at the second floor of the Block # 3 of the Administrative Building. In keeping with the vision and mission of the University, the library has been established "to promote knowledge generation and application through its effective dissemination". The University Boys hostel is centrally located in the University campus near to the South city gate of the campus. The hostel is provided with 120 spacious and well furnished rooms which can accommodate near about 200 students. The hostel has Mess facility and recreation facilities like TV room, indoor games and scenic rose garden in the premises of the Hostel. The hostel has built in residence for Hostel Warden and office of Hostel warden. The Hostel provides accommodation for the students (boys) of M.A/ M.Sc/ M.Phil /Ph.D of the University. The rooms are allotted on the twin sharing basis.
The reservation in the Hostel is as per the University reservation policy.
