As per Aliah University Act 2007, Section 3 (3), it has been conferred the status of a minority educational institution. Aliah University is an autonomous university under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal. It is hoped that along with the people of any race, creed, caste or class, this University will play a crucial and leading role in the advancement of higher education for socially and educationally backward classes belonging to the Minorities.

Aliah University has undertaken two projects on condition of Madrasah education and status of Muslim Women’s education in nineteen districts of West Bengal. The research design of both the projects is being constructed and the filed work will start from August 2010. The aim of the project is to find out how far education at the Madrasah is satisfactory to the Muslim population in West Bengal. The second aim is to find out the present status of the educational achievements of the Muslim women in the state. This research will be carried out simultaneously on the sample selected from all the Madrasahs in the state and a household survey. At the end a comparison will be drawn between the infrastructural support receive

The Vice Chancellor of the University and also the Coordinator of the project has recruited three field workers at the initial stage to look after the progress of the project and lend assistance in completion of the work at hand as soon as possible.

University Library:

Aliah University has a library rich in collection of literature in Islamic Theology, Islamic Jurisprudence and Law, and Arabic.

The library is now diversifying in the areas of Science, Engineering, Management Science, Humanities and Social Sciences.

To accommodate the students of Madrasah-i-Aliah, Elliot Hostel was erected in the year 1896. This three-storied building was constructed out of the donations raised from the generous people and dedicated to Nawab Abdul Latif Bahadur in recognition of his services in promoting education among the Muslims of Eastern India.

The hostel is located 17, Haji Md. Mohsin Square, Kolkata-700016. Sixty percent of its berths are reserved for the accommodation of Aliah University students studying in Islamic Theology and Mumtazul Muhaddethin (M. M.). Students are admitted in the hostel strictly on merit basis and on production of documentary evidence of their permanent residence.

Rules and Regulations:

The boarders of the hostel are not permitted to use Electric Heaters, Iron, Tape Recorders, or any articles of entertainments in the rooms. If any one is found using the same, the materials will be confiscated and they will not be returned.

The boarders shall not allow any outsider into the room without the permission of the concerned authorities. If any one is found violating this order, he shall be removed from the hostel.

The boarders will not be allowed to enter the hostel or to go out of the hostel after 11.00 P.M.

Any type of disturbance caused to fellow-mates shall be seriously viewed and such students shall be penalized heavily at the discretion of the authorities.
