Education Policy declared by Government of India in 1986 and passing of A.I.C.T.E.  Act in 1987 by both the houses of Parliament paved way for starting Self Financed Institutions of Technical Education in the country. In subsequent years, globalization of Trade and Industry and liberalization of economy in the country inculcated aspirations among the parents and students to go for higher technical education for their bright future. As such, the thirst for technical education in every corner of society went on increasing year after year. In course of time, knowledge became the source of generating of wealth and graduates of Engineering colleges became high in demand nationally and internationally where they are known as Knowledge workers.

In order to ensure Gujarat does not lag behind other states in matter of quality technical education to its youth; few highly educated and like minded persons came forward to fulfill this Herculean task by forming Charitable trust known as Ashok Landmark Education Trust which created an Institution named as “Ahmedabad Institute of Technology”. This Institute was established with objective to provide quality Technical Education to the youth of Gujarat and to fulfill the aspirations of the students and their parents in today’s knowledge based society.

As such, Ahmedabad Institute of Technology was established in June 2004 under the ageis of The Ashok Education Land Mark Trust with the approval of All India Council for Technical Education to fulfill technical educational needs of the students of Gujarat State. It has gained  name for imparting quality technical education in the vicinity of Ahmedabad offering Degree programmes in 4 branches of Engineering viz Electronics & Communication Engg, Electrical Engg., Computer Engg and Mechanical Engg. wherein branch of Information Technology & Post Graduate Programme in Management were added in 2008.

The institute adopts modern practices of training and placement of students in industries and world of work. For this purpose, placement cell is created in every department with HOD as coordinator with two faculty members and two final year students as members. Placement cells prepare soft copy of placement brochure of institute and sends the same to identified but selected industries with an invitation for campus placements, by way of  correspondence and meeting in person   with executives the industries and interacts with executives of industries for placement of students in industries.

Institute has developed contacts with numerous Agencies, Institutes Organizations and Industrial establishments for the placement of the final year/ semester students for training with a view to offer them benefits like

1) The students are exposed to the real life situations in the field where they have to work in their life. They realise the pros and cons of the same and learn to mould them for the same.

2) The students face challenging situations during the training situations and try to adapt themselves for the various works. Situations.

3) The students learn different work cultures and make themselves aware of the real life situations in technical and executive field

The Cell has taken as its primary concern the assignment of placing the VIII Semester students in job placements in various Agencies, Institutes, Organizations and Industrial establishments.

The Learning resource center known as Library  is one of the important academic facilities provided to the students and the faculty at the Institute.  The Centre houses more than 20,000 books, 100 periodicals/magazines, 1000 CDs. The entire collection of the centre has been computerized enabling the issue/ return of books to be automated. The students have access to the entire collection through computers attached with CD-ROM facility. The Librarian will be available for the service of the students without adherence to the timings of the Library. The Library also has the facility of Book Bank to cater the requirement of the students in need.
